Fulco Ruffo di Calabria, pioneer and aviation ace, senator of the Kingdom of Italy, got his pilot’s license in Pisa in 1915. He fought with Major Francesco Baracca taking part in hundreds of air battles. He was decorated with a gold medal which represents the highest reward for military valour.
